Privacy Policy

1. About Kathakar

Kathakar is a children's storytelling application offering original and classic stories in English and Hindi, developed and operated by Kathakar (kathakarapp@gmail.com). The app is available on iOS and Android and is intended for children aged 3–14, used with parental guidance.

2. Information We Collect

Kathakar is designed to work without accounts or registration. We collect the minimum information necessary to provide a good experience. Account creation is entirely optional and only required for cross-device sync.

Information stored only on your device (never sent to us):

• Your preferred age group (3–5, 6–8, 9–11, or 12–14)
• Your preferred language (English, Hindi, or Both)
• Whether onboarding has been completed
• The last three stories you read (Continue Reading)

We do not collect phone numbers, photos, location data, or any other personally identifiable information beyond what is listed below.

If you choose to sign in with Google (optional):

• Name — collected via Google Sign-In, used for account display only
• Email address — collected via Google Sign-In, used for account management only
• User ID — Firebase user identifier, used to sync reading progress across devices
• Purchase history — subscription status stored to enable Kathakar Plus features

All of the above is linked to your account identity and used solely for app functionality. We do not use this data for advertising or share it with third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

• Anthropic Claude API — used during content generation only, not during normal app use.
• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — audio is pre-generated and stored. No user input is sent at runtime.
• Firebase (Google) — used for app hosting, story content storage, and optional user authentication. See Firebase Privacy.
• Google Sign-In — optional account login. Only used if you choose to sign in. See Google Privacy Policy.
• Apple / Google In-App Purchase — subscription billing. We do not store payment information.

We do not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, social media SDKs, or any tracking technologies.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA & DPDP)

Kathakar is directed at children under 13 and complies with COPPA and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP), 2023.

• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
• We do not display behavioural advertising to any users.
• We do not share any user data with third parties for marketing purposes.
• All story content is pre-moderated and age-appropriate.

5. How We Use Information

Device-local preferences are used solely to personalise which stories are shown. This data never leaves the device and is not accessible to us.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

All preferences are stored locally. You can delete all app data by:

• Using "Reset Onboarding" in the Settings screen
• Clearing app data from your device Settings → Apps → Kathakar
• Uninstalling the app

7. Security

Because we collect no personal data, there is no personal data at risk of breach. Story content is served over HTTPS. Device-local preferences are stored in the app's sandboxed private storage.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we update this Privacy Policy, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India.
